Believing
that every child should be given the opportunity to realize his/her full
potential, the TIME Mentoring program
has as its mission providing a positive mentoring relationship for any
child within Baxter County who needs extra support. Through trained community
volunteers, the child will be provided friendship, guidance, and encouraged to strive
for positive attitudes toward themselves and others as well as learn to practice constructive
behavior.
This program, run cooperatively through the Baxter County Family Resource Center and the
AmeriCorps Promise Fellow, is committed to providing a mentor for each Baxter County Alternative
School student. These adult, community volunteers commit to a minimum of one hour each week
to establish individual, caring relationship with a BCAS student. The TIME Mentoring
Program focuses on improving the lives of children in our community by providing mentors
to listen, talk and guide them in identifying problems, setting goals and encouraging them
toward a constructive and productive lifestyle.
Currently, 38 mentors volunteer at BCAS. This program is funded through the public school
tuition received for each student enrolled in BCAS, the Family Resource Center grant and
the AmeriCorps Promise Fellow grant.
